Background Info on this blog and the author

My name is Stephen Shastay.  I teach stenography. 

Follow along with my blog, and you will learn the secrets.  The hidden truths will be revealed.  The fallacies will be exposed. 

My expertise is teaching.  I will show you what I do in my classes.  I'll give you the drills, the exercises, and the advice.   

I won't comment on steno machines, firms, schools, theories, organizations, CAT systems, etc.  Go find the experts for those questions.  This blog will give you the answers to  learning the keyboard, speedbuilding, test taking, nerves, etc.  If you need clarification, post a comment. 

Please stay on topic when you comment.  You may suggest that I cover a certain subject, but I won't be able to answer all questions on all subjects.  Don't worry.  There is very little that you must know.  Everything about stenography is simple.  The reasons for success and failure are simple.  The answers to clarity, hesitation, carrying, etc., are simple.  It is all simple.  Let me show you.

I just found your blog after joining some forums on the web.
My mouth is hanging open with an expression of "why the h___ hasn't someone who is suppose to be teaching this stuff saying the things that you are saying?
I quit school and started teaching myself at home with "speedbuilding" from an acredited home study program and I am wondering if we should just rename speedbuilding to "clarity building" because I have been using the method in my practice and I like it a lot. I haven't done any of the drills to drop the most difficult word yet, but believe me I will.
I hate going too fast on text that I am so sloppy at I could just want to cry when I look at it. I spend the "seat time" now I just want to use that time that I have to my best advantage, i.e., practice smarter not harder.
I am really tired of beating myself up when I cannot write the speed and I am "afraid" to slow the dication down because someone said I should be trying to write 20-40 above my goal speed and magically I will, after a period of time be able to write that fast. Well, after 15 months of doing that I still have yet to pass my 120's.
Now that I have taught myself that that way doesn't work I am going to spend my time using your method because I already feel more confident after only using it for 2 days of practice.

Thanks so much! I need your book when it comes out and where do you teach anyway?
